The complete exhaust system developed by Tubi Style and the legend Georg Plasa
In the world of extreme hillclimb engineering, few cars have left as deep a mark as Georg Plasa’s BMW E36 320 V8 Judd. Radical, lightweight, and uncompromising, it combines a pure racing engine with meticulously crafted components. Among the most captivating elements of this icon is undoubtedly its exhaust system: a masterpiece created by Tubi Style.
The project began with a classic BMW E36 coupé, transformed into a hillclimb monster thanks to the adoption of a 3.4-liter Judd KV675 engine derived from LMP2 prototypes and Formula 3000.
This naturally aspirated V8 produces around 550–560 hp and revs beyond 10,000 rpm, delivering a sharp, metallic soundtrack reminiscent of early-2000s Formula 1 engines.
To support such a racing heart, every other component of the car was engineered to maximize performance and minimize weight—and that’s where Tubi Style comes in.
For this project, Tubi Style engineered a complete Inconel exhaust system carefully designed to optimize exhaust gas flow at extremely high engine speeds. Every bend and every weld was precisely calculated to support the performance characteristics of the Judd V8, ensuring maximum efficiency under racing conditions.
The choice of Inconel was essential: a material that is both exceptionally lightweight and highly resistant to extreme temperatures, perfectly suited for a high-revving racing engine. The system is built around twin 4-into-1 headers, designed to enhance the scavenging effect, allowing exhaust gases to evacuate more efficiently and helping the engine deliver its full power potential.
Beyond its technical function, the exhaust defines the car’s unmistakable voice — the distinctive #TubiSound. A sharp, high-pitched scream, precise and perfectly modulated: aggressive and thrilling, yet never chaotic. It is a sound signature so unique that the BMW E36 Judd is often recognized by ear long before it comes into view.
Visually, the system is just as impressive. Perfect TIG welds, clean geometries, and a layout meticulously engineered to make the most of the limited space within the E36 chassis transform the exhaust into something more than a mechanical component. Every detail reflects not only advanced engineering expertise, but also a strong sense of craftsmanship and aesthetic refinement.
Georg Plasa’s BMW E36 Judd dominated European hillclimb racing throughout the 2000s, setting the benchmark for power-to-weight balance, drivability, and outright performance.
It also made history at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it challenged Le Mans prototypes and DTM machines with remarkable pace.
